Should iPhone unlockers not jump the gun?
So the iPhone is unlocked. Reports are claiming that people are buying phones just to use them on other networks. Personally, I think it’s a great idea. I have nothing at all against Cingular/AT&T, they’ve been a terrific carrier for years. However, I think that the iPhone should be for everyone, and not everyone likes the fact that the iPhone is locked to one carrier.

But be warned, once the phone is unlocked, there’s no guarantee that Apple will either brick your phone or undo the changes in a software update. That means you’re either going to have to be happy with the latest software update and never update your phone, or wait to see if others can still upgrade their firmware in the future with an unlocked phone. I’m guessing that although most people that unlock their phones are the types that keep an eye on the state of how software updates affect their phones, some people might not be so insightful and once a firmware update comes, the people that did the unlocking are going to have angry customers.
Buyers beware.
