Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!
So I got a Wii. I really didn’t expect to today, but I did.
We were all going to see the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. We took a train in and decided that a taxi would be the best way to go uptown. On a whim, I thought it would be a good idea to stop at the Toys R Us in Times Square and just see if they had any. We get there, and there’s a short line out the door. What for? Wiis. Thousands of them. With only an hour left before showtime, I decided that family > Wii, so we went to the show. I didn’t need one so badly that I wanted to make everyone wait for me.
We get to Radio City and there’s a MASSIVE line for the show. It turns out that they’re doing security checks at the door which was slowing everyone down. Terrific.
The show was good, but the same as we saw it two years ago. Radio City is beautiful as always.
Afterwards, we went to Planet Hollywood which was a block from TRU. After getting a table I ran out to check on the line. It’s still there, and they still had a ton left. So I ran back and ate, and I decided that while everyone else was winding down, I’d stand on line and wait for a Wii. After getting on line, the security guard told me that if you’re on line, you’re guaranteed to get one within 15-20 minutes. Sure enough, 20 minutes later I had my Wii, just as everyone else was finishing dinner at Planet Hollywood. Perfect timing.
The Wii is cute. It’s definitely not a next-gen console. The problem was that Nintendo shorted everyone on component cables so I had to use the provided composite cables which looked awful. Still, the Wii found my wireless network just fine and I played around with Wii Sports. It’s definitely a lot of fun, but I can’t see myself making this my main console. That’s currently the Xbox 360.
The only game I gave a crap about was Zelda. Nothing else looks worth the trouble in buying.
Tennis is great, as is bowling. Golf I’m not so fond of, and boxing is terrible. You do get a workout from these games, and I go to the gym every day.
