I’ll take a PS3 while you have them

I called my local Gamestop today to see if they had any Wiis in, thinking that there’s no way they’d have a PS3. The manager I spoke to, who knows I want both, said “No Wiis, but we have a PS3 if you want it. It’s a 20 GB version”.

I flew out the door.

Knowing it was a smaller hard drive and didn’t have the memory card reader, I got it anyway.

What a damn nice gorgeous machine. This thing does so much. Photos, movies, games, music. The first thing I did, mainly out of habit, is try the latest Ridge Racer. I’m SO impressed with it. Not only are the graphics in-game good, but they made the menu system look next-gen also. Is it extraneous? Yes, but it’s eye candy. Ridge Racer’s controls are excellent.

Resistance: Fall of Man is a rated M first-person shooter. For a console, it just kicks serious ass. The premise is that a biological experiment went wrong in the 1940′s, sweeping across Russia and Europe, and now the fight comes to England. A very good game.

As for the PS3′s other features, it played my CD just fine, and went out and found the tracks for the CD I put in (Evanescence’s “The Open Door”). I attached a Sony memory card reader and it read the pictures from it just fine.

The unit came with Telladega Nights on Blu-Ray. I popped it in to try it. It loaded fast, but I already saw Blu-Ray so I wasn’t blown away by anything new here.

This is going to be a fun machine to play with.
